Company profile

Indigo Yachts Ltd. was established in 2001 by yacht designer, David Ridsdale-Saw and his partner, Selma Bakr, in a bid to continue the long-standing tradition of boat building in the Caribbean island St. Kitts.

For some thirty years this island has been at the centre stage of manufacturing prestigious classic sailing catamarans that excel in gracious design and reliable construction.

Indigo Yachts Ltd. has sought to carry on this tradition, yet it has also continuously striven to bring innovation to the craft and product. Specialising in custom and semi-custom boats, Indigo Yachts has gained a solid reputation for delivering a superior product and high-quality workmanship.

Management

Indigo Yachts Ltd. is owned by David Ridsdale-Saw and Selma Bakr.

David has a 20-year track record in design and construction of boats ranging from smaller recreational vessels to super yachts. With a degree in micro-structural engineering and yacht design & building under his belt, as well as having completed an officer’s training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, David’s solid skills saw him excel at several reputable marine companies such as Cougar Marine, Simpson Davits, Tony Castro Design and Bowman Yachts. As super yachts Systems Designer and later as Chief Designer at Camper & Nicholson Yachts, David became responsible for the design management of such world-renowned super yachts as ‘Atlantide’ (115’ classic motor sailing yacht), 'Yanneke Too' (116' sailing yacht), 'Our Blue Dream' (121' sailing yacht), 'Kauris II' (80' racing/cruising yacht), 'Sea Tenerez' (86' blue water cruising yacht) and 'Buzzy B' (90' racing maxi). He also contributed to various design projects on British Naval vessels such as the Aircraft Carrier HMS Invincible, The Royal Yacht Britannia and associated Service Craft.

Selma, a former pr & public affairs consultant, is fluent in five languages and manages the daily business side of things at Indigo Yachts. Although not your typical ‘yachtie’ initially, she took a keen interest and decided to fast-track her knowledge of boats by taking a hands-on approach. She has been known to get up on the scaffolds with the employees, and assist David with electrical installations, while keeping all the project orders and accounts in check!

Team

Indigo Yachts employs a team of highly skilled local craftsmen. Most employees have been working in the boat building industry for most of their professional lives and been with the company since start up. Although they each have their own specialities ranging from carpentry, mechanical installations, to spray painting and detailing, the team works in unison to make our projects happen!
